Pandemic Survival is an extreme version of Pandemic, where teams of two players face each other simultaneously with the same objective in mind: Be the first team to find all four cures or be the sole survivor at the end of the game. During this unique Organized Play experience, each team faces the same starting situation: identical roles, infected cities, and the same player cards in the same order. Only each team's strategic choices will differentiate them and prove a winning or losing strategy. Further, all tournament material was cultivated to add to the experience.

This is the description of the 2019 Pandemic Survival Contest which is being played at conventions around the world throughout the year. This contest seems harmless at first glance, but one of our team members, Mac, says things have gotten a little out of hand at a new convention he is attending this weekend called Dice Spire Con. The convention director stated in his opening remarks, with a frustrated demeanor, that they are not a sister convention to Dice Tower Con. He went on to say that this convention will soon be a very sought after Con to attend. He seems to think that what will set this Con apart from the others is their decision to spice up the Pandemic Survival Contest. The same rules were implemented into their contest: However, everyone but the survivor(s) at the end of the game will actually be infected with random diseases. The winners are gifted with a free trip to anywhere found on the Pandemic game board. In their excitement for the grand prize of traveling the world, contestants rushed through the waivers completely missing the punishment for defeated players. The contest took place in a secluded part of the convention so not many people were aware of what was happening. Even the people who lost the event seemed oblivious as they willingly accepted defeat by taking an oral pill full of disease. After speaking with several defeated contestants, they unanimously agreed they thought the pills were just fun fan made pandemic candies to represent a participation trophy of sorts.

The attendance is extremely low today, and the few people in attendance seemed to be in a daze. Could be due to the contests running late into the night which had some pretty cool prizes. Sirens have been constantly blaring on and off all morning outside, which has been quite annoying. The best part about the day is that the lines are practically nonexistent. However, some of the people have been quite violent when bumped into and the brightly dressed security guards are no where in sight. A lot of the costumes today are more on the gory side with some being insanely realistic. I'm all about unique and realistic costumes, but one guy was taking his character way too far. He continued to crawl towards whatever direction I walked leaving a trail of fake blood and who knows what else behind him. After ten minutes of no break in character, I decided to ditch him by dashing off to the demo area where I am supposed to meet Derek and Lizzy Funkhouser to play The Walking Dead: Something to Fearbefore my slot in the Pandemic Survival Contest begins. Be sure to tune in tomorrow for updates and hopefully there will be an uptick in attendance. Starting to feel bad for this convention director. He really wanted this convention to blow up into a fun annual event everyone would look forward to.
