We were recently contacted by an individual who wanted to share her story on our platform. We were on board as long as it was short, sweet, and not inappropriate. Well, it checked all the boxes. Check out this exciting life experience of a fellow gamer!
“It was a cool morning on a Thursday. September 1, 2011 was the exact date. I remember it so clearly. I stopped by my FLGS and saw a poster on the wall with a box beneath it. The giveaway was for a game called 7 Wonders which just so happened to be at the top of my wish list, so I decided to drop my entry slip in the box. No suspense here…I didn’t win. That’s okay, nobody ever wins their first contest right? Hoping my luck would turn around I spent the next seven years entering contests. I aimed to enter three per week to keep my odds up. It was tough at first, but with social media giveaways becoming the norm it soon became easy to enter five to six per week. I even took the time to raise my chances by ensuring I had every question correct in each BGG Contest I entered. This stopped when I had a friend win by getting just one answer correct. I entered so many giveaways I began to keep a notebook to keep track of entries. As of December 2018 I had entered approximately 7,952 giveaways. You see this isn’t a story about a game library built by giveaways. This isn’t a story of a girl who won a game a year for seven years. This isn’t a story of success. This is a story of hard work, determination, and perseverance. This is a story of a girl who could’ve given up. I could’ve quit a long time ago. I could’ve become bitter after the friends I added to Facebook groups won games while I watched. I could’ve cheated. I could’ve just settled for buying games myself. This could be the story of a girl who cried a river and drowned the whole world. But, I stood strong! On January 18th, 2019 my life changed! My board game library finally began as I won my first giveaway. Now that I own a game of my own I’ll be throwing a celebration game night at my home for the first time! Let this be a word of encouragement to all of you that seem to never win. Stand strong and fight the good fight. Remember, you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take”
